The Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) is a network of parliamentarians, established in 1981, to promote parliamentarians’ involvement in addressing and solving population and development issues in the Asia and the Pacific region. AFPPD’s Secretariat is based in Bangkok, Thailand.

Our Advocacy

AFPPD, alongside its national member committees, pioneer advocacy action on population and development issues by parliamentarians at the international, regional and country level. AFPPD sees the need to increase the ranks of parliamentarians who provide leadership in advocating among their peers and craft new laws on population and development.

BANGKOK, Thailand, Aug. 18, 2015— The Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Thailand Country Office, and the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), headed by the NLA Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Health and AFPPD Secretary General, Dr. Jetn Sirathranont, held a consultation meeting on the proposed draft Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and Alleviation Bill (Teenage Pregnancy Bill). The consultation meeting solicited ideas from over 50 participants to further improve the draft bill, which aims to respond to, and help curb the high incidence of teenage pregnancy in Thailand.
